The School House of St. Stephen’s College is a Declared Monument with significant historical, architectural, and aesthetic values. Established in 1930, The School House of St. Stephen’s College is not only the oldest school building still providing boarding service in Hong Kong, but also one of the very few remaining structures that was formerly used as the Stanley Internment Camp during Japanese Occupation.

Designed in the late transitional Arts and Crafts style marked by a Modernist influence, the School House is an H-shaped building consisting of an east wing and a west wing connected by a central block. Its architectural and aesthetic value is captured in the rough-cast rendering, wide overhanging eaves, arched windows and doorways and arcaded verandahs.

Erected for almost 80 years, renovation is much needed to ensure the students’ boarding experience. Tai Kong is here to help with the reinstatement and renovation work of the ceilings, sanitary facilities and the old staircase. Conservation work is equally important in this project; original terrazzo floor at staircases are revealed, and its rusting railings are repaired. With the significant historical elements of the buildings restored, we are determined to safeguard its integrity while up-keeping the students’ accommodation quality in St. Stephen’s College.
