Crown Wine Cellars at 18 Deep Water Bay Drive is an outstanding adaptive reuse project that has been declared a UNESCO Asia Pacific Heritage Site in 2007. The owner renovated former wartime bunkers built in 1930s into a wine club providing club members a place for dining and relaxation.

Despite the mysterious past of military structures, Crown Wine Cellars offered a peaceful space for dining, gathering and parties because of the outstanding design of the glasshouse at the entrance. It acts well as a transition from outdoor area to the enclosed underground bunkers. Visitors are always fascinated by the transparency of a solid structure and its sense of connection to the greeneries and fresh air at the surroundings. Tai Kong Construction contributed to the project in the installation of the new glass house structure and adaptively reuse the original bunkers for the new use of wine cellar, bar, kitchen and toilets; providing the club members with the best experience inside the hybrid of modern glass structure and historic fabric. While the actions took place at an abandoned location, together with the strict requirement in the wine cellars’ humidity and temperature, the revitalisation process was more challenging. Nevertheless, Crown Wine Cellars is still acknowledged as one of the world’s finest wine cellar facilities.
